McDonald Selected As Next TSBA President

White County School Board Member Jayson McDonald has been selected to serve as the next president of the Tennessee School Boards Association.

McDonald said he will be working with district directors from across the state to develop policies for public schools throughout Tennessee. McDonald said he will be the first president in the history of the association to come from White County.

“I hope that we can make it look and make people realize that public education is a requirement by law that we offer it,” McDonald said. “But would also like to make sure that we know that there are great people working across our state to educate our kids.”

McDonald said his term will start on January 1 and will last for the entire calendar year of 2025. He said he hopes to show the rest of the state that rural communities like White County can have strong leadership.

“You’re recognized on the state level,” McDonald said. “Your name is forever etched in history. I’m a reserved person a lot of times, but I’m a very open and honest and public person.”

McDonald said he has been working toward this position for several years as members of the association’s board of officers start at the bottom and work their way up.

“There’s a diverse group that’s going to be leading the TSBA,” McDonald said. “And it’s just humbling for me to be able to stand in front of all those people and be able to stand in front of all those people and show what we’re doing here in White County to promote our district.”

McDonald said he became eligible for the position because the current president-elect let his term expire for his local school board.

“To be a member of TSBA’s officer board you have to be member of your local board in your home town,” McDonald said.
