A Cumberland County Criminal Court judge has sentenced a Florida man to prison for fatally strangling a dog in January.

23-year-old Dylan Scott Case will spend the next two years behind bars after entering a guilty plea.

The incident occurred on Jan. 14 when Case punched and strangled his girlfriend’s dog in Crossville. Case told police at the scene that he had abused the dog on previous occasions as a way to cope with anger issues.

Case was transported to Cumberland Medical Center per his request due to his declining mental state. Officers were called to the hospital after Case became hostile towards staff and security, punching an officer before being subdued and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center.

The judge required Case to serve at least 30 percent of his sentence after already serving 120 days in jail.
