The Putnam County Rescue Squad responded to White County Thursday after a man became stranded by floodwaters.
The incident happened at Lafever Road and Burgess Mills Road. Lieutenant Daniel Harris said crews found the man clinging to a tree after water completely submerged his vehicle.
“We were able to get our boat inflated and out to the victim,” Harris said. “We got him in the boat and brought him back to shore. He was checked out by White County EMS, but he was in good spirits. Just cold and wet.”
Harris said the rescue squad has responded to three water rescues since Wednesday night. No injuries occurred during any of those operations. He stressed that residents should remain off the roadways as rain continues to fall across the region.
“If you come up to a roadway that has water across it, turn around and don’t drown,” Harris said. “Six inches of water can move a small car. We don’t want to have to come out and get you.”
Putnam County EMA Director Tyler smith said the area has received 6.43 inches of rain since the weather system first began.
