Man, Juvenile Injured During Wednesday I-40 Crash

Authorities have identified at least two people injured in a Wednesday crash on I-40.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported Thursday 67-year-old James Tidwell, of Celina, and an eight-year-old juvenile were injured when the accident occurred in Putnam County.

The crash report states Tidwell was driving eastbound near Buffalo Valley with the juvenile and 30-year-old Tiffany Ford as passengers.

The report indicates the car began to hydroplane before Tidwell over-corrected to avoid a concrete barrier. The car then spun, overturned, and went airborne before striking the top of a guardrail.

Tidwell’s vehicle continued to roll down an embankment before coming to a rest against a tree on its passenger side. According to the report, Ford was able to come away from the crash without injury.

Both Tidwell and the juvenile were flown from the scene for treatment of their injuries. The report indicates neither Ford nor the juvenile were wearing seat belts when the accident occurred.

Charges are currently pending against Tidwell.
