An unidentified man suffered serious injuries after falling from the cliffs at Cummins Falls State Park Monday.
According to Park Manager Ray Cutcher, the man was attempting to climb up a cliff when he fell about 40 to 50 feet and landed on the rocks below.
Park rangers and Jackson County emergency crews managed to get the man back up the cliff, where an ambulance transported him to a medical helicopter.
“He was climbing out of a route that we usually use as our emergency evacuation route,” Cutcher said. A lot of people previously used the route to get to the bottom of the falls before it became a park.”
The park now has a trail that provides a more safe way for people to get down to the waterfall, Cutcher said.
There is no word on the man’s condition.
