A standoff between a suicidal man and Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies ended with no injuries Monday evening.
A press release from the CCSO said deputies responded to Muddy Branch Lane and found 54-year-old Jesse Spivey on the front porch holding a gun to his head.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene as law enforcement began negotiating with Spivey to put the gun down.
During negotiations, the weapon discharged when Spivey lit a cigarette, but no one was injured.
Spivey surrendered after putting the weapon inside the home and returning to the front porch. He was transported by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.
Officials said charges are pending against Spivey for incidents that took place before and during the standoff.
