Macon County Nestle Water Plant Shuts Down

The Nestle Water production plan in Red Boiling Springs officially closed Tuesday.

Factory Manager Daniel Disney released a statement regarding the closure, saying the company was looking to head in a separate direction.

“Bottled water is a highly competitive category,” Disney writes. “In response to the competitive situation, we are evolving our business to better align our current operations to meet our future needs and position the company for long-term success.”

The closure of the Macon County plant will result in 43 jobs lost in the area, although the company states all employees will remain on payroll through the beginning of February. Employees will also reportedly receive severance packages based on tenure.

“While we are confident that this action will allow us to better serve our customers and make the company stronger, we recognize the impact that this decision will have on our Macon County associates and their families, and the Red Boiling Springs community,” Disney writes. “We are grateful to all of our Red Boiling Springs associates whose hard work, skills and commitment to quality have made our brands loved and trusted by consumers across the country.”

No word on what will happen with the current 200,000 square foot building now that the facility has ceased operations.
