Lower Lake Level Could Provide Maintenance Opportunities For Crossville Residents

Crossville City Council members will consider lowering the water level at Holiday Lake.

City Manager Greg Wood said the move would give lakefront property owners the ability to do maintenance on docks and shorelines.

“We looked at Lake Tansi and they routinely drop their lake levels every four years to allow maintenance,” Wood said. “We have not dropped it (Lake Holiday) at all for maintenance in the last several years.”

If approved by the city council, Crossville would lower Holiday lake at least four feet every four years. The water level would be lowered in the winter and stay that way for at least 90 to 120 days.

“On a rotating basis to make sure it doesn’t correspond with the same time that Tansi is doing it,” Wood said. “If we had a water situation, we can still harvest water from Tansi.”

Wood said he will be checking with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation about the proposed policy and hopes to have the item on the Tuesday, August 14th city council agenda.
