Gov. Bill Haslam announced Tennessee has historic low unemployment, but there may be more behind the numbers.
Haslam said June’s statewide unemployment was 3.6 percent, the lowest in state history.
Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce CEO Brad Allamong said that number doesn’t include people who have left the workforce, stopped looking for work or maybe have a part time job and want a full time job.
“There’s a lot of things that go into this equation, I think that’s a good number, I don’t doubt it, but I don’t know if it’s picking up all the folks that are hidden,” Allamong said.
The Cumberland Chamber completed a workforce study in May that showed many of those looking for employment in Cumberland County and the 9 counties that surround it are employed part time but want full time work.
