Early voting ended Thursday for the 17th Senatorial Special Primary election.
A total of 147 people took advantage of early voting in DeKalb County. Election Administrator Dennis Stanley said it was an “extremely low” turnout, not only in his county, but the entire 17th District.
“Anytime you don’t have opposition and anytime there’s a special election in an odd year, people just aren’t geared towards voting,” Stanley said. “We do think voting will pick up for the general election because there will actually be competition.”
Republican Mark Pody and Democrat Mary Alice Carfi are both running unopposed in the primary.
The primary election will continue on November 7th and the general election will take place December 19th.
Pody and Carfi are seeking to fill the unexpired term of State Senator Mae beavers, who resigned earlier this year to focus on her campaign for governor.
Out of the 147 early votes in DeKalb County, 91 votes were for Mark Pody and 56 votes were for Carfi.
