A Grand Ole Opry musician and Smith County native will be laid to rest later this week.
84-year-old George McCormick died Monday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
McCormick began his Grand Ole Opry career in 1951. In his 47-years at the Opry he played guitar, bass fiddle and sang with artists including Jim Reeves, Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton, and Grandpa Jones.
Funeral services for McCromick will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery.
McCormicks’s family will receive friends Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again Friday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
