London Flights Will Impact Upper Cumberland Too

Nonstop flights to Europe will have a positive effect on at least one Upper Cumberland institution.

Dr. Vahid Motevalli is associate dean for research and innovation at Tennessee Tech.

“Nashville airport is the most convenient one for us to use and certainly by having direct flights to London or other parts of Europe, we can also then have flights connecting to other parts of the world,” Motevalli said.

Motevalli said nonstop service to and from Europe will help international teachers and students from around the world. It will also be easier for Tech’s staff and students to travel for research and conferences.

“Anytime you have direct flights to large population centers, whether it’s in Europe or Asia it really has a significant economic impact,” Motevalli said.

Gov. Bill Haslam and Nashville Mayor Megan Barry announced British Airways will offer nonstop flights from Nashville to London in May.

Haslam said each flight has a potential impact of $103 million on the greater Nashville area.
