Birth numbers for Cookeville Regional Medical Center and Livingston Regional suggest the spring shutdown did not create a baby boom.
Cookeville Birth Center Director Rebecca Kojak said both pregnancies and births have stayed consistent compared to a year ago.
“We actually have not seen a huge in pregnancies or moms that we have delivered,” Kojack said. “Over the past year, it stayed pretty consistent with about 1,500 deliveries.”
According to Livingston Regional Marketing Director David Cox, their numbers have only seen a slight increase in birth and pregnancies.
Kojak said the birth center works hard to make deliveries as safe as possible while keeping the moment special. Laboring women are allowed one supporting visitor during their stay due to COVID, Kojak said.
“I think one of the most important things I would like the community to know is that we are here for everyone to make their delivery and time at the hospital as safe as possible while still making it special for them,” Kojak said.
The Cookeville Regional Birth Center works with parents to make sure that babies and mothers can stay together, Kojak said.
