Local Church Accepting Donations For Disaster Relief

Christpoint Church in Sparta is accepting disaster relief donations for areas in East Tennessee that suffered catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Helene.

Christpoint Church Event Coordinator Stephanie Sparks said the church is working with White County EMA and the Executive’s office to collect donations. Sparks said the church is helping send relief as helping those in need is the mission of the church.

“Our heart as Christpoint is to help the community and it hurts to see our community hurting,” Sparks said. “And that’s you know locally, state level, and the nation itself.”

Sparks said items needed are bottled water, canned foods, batteries, flashlights, baby supplies, and hygiene items. Sparks said a majority of the areas affected by flooding have yet to receive relief.

“We have contacts in East Tennessee and some of the smaller communities the larger relief efforts have not been able to get into those areas yet,” Sparks said. “There are people that have medications that need to be refrigerated or babies can’t get the formula they need.”

Sparks said the items will be sent to Pigeon Forge which is where the items will then be distributed to different areas that are affected.

“Once they open it up to where we can go in and help we would be taking these items directly into the affected areas,” Sparks said.

Sparks said she hopes that if the roles were ever reversed the Upper Cumberland would receive help from the people they are helping now. Sparks said even if you can’t donate food the church is accepting volunteers to help out.

Donation drop-off is located at ChristPoint Church Connect Center and will be from Tuesday – Saturday from 10am – 4pm. For more information about the disaster relief donations visit the ChristPoint Facebook page.
