Local Boat Shop Putting On Boat Show Fundraiser For UC Fishing Teams

Local boat shop Blue Moon Marine is putting on a fundraiser at Hyder Burks Pavilion this Saturday to benefit youth fishing teams across the Upper Cumberland.

President Cindy LaFever said the event came about after the business’ one-year anniversary celebration last year which featured a boat show and prizes. She said it was such a success, they decided to bring the event back but use it to help the various bass fishing teams at schools in the region.

“We love all sports and we’re not trying to place one above another but fishing does tend to take a backburner compared to some of the more well-known sports that get more funding and things like that,” LaFever said. “And of course with us being in the business of us fixing up their boats it just made sense.”

LaFever said these kids have to pay to travel across the state and across the country for their competitions, including their parents and coaches traveling as well. She said they put in a lot of miles and a lot

LaFever said this year’s celebration will feature bass boats from owners all around the region. She said if you would still like to register for $30 and show off your boat, $10 will go to the teams at Jackson County High School, Livingston Academy, Upperman High School.

“We have different award classes like best flooring, best lighting, a bunch of different awards, and did public voting and gave away prizes to the winners,” LaFever said. “And we were being approached by some of the local fishing teams for sponsorships and of course we were a new business so we did a little bit but felt like we wanted to do more, and that’s why this year after having another year of business and working on that many more boats we thought to pull it all together and use our boat show as the fundraiser. ”

LaFever said you do not have to be a boat owner or a bass fisher to come out and enjoy the event. She said it will be fun for everyone in the community.
