The City of Livingston will submit a 130 page Main Street Designation application to the state this week.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Greg McDonald said the application looks excellent.
“Our people in the state that do make the approval, they’ve been here, they know us, they’ve visited all the things that we have going on in our downtown area (which is the Main Street),” McDonald said. “They are very supportive and always have been. So I’d actually be shocked if it’s not approved.”
McDonald said he expects to hear from Main Street officials in a month or less. He said this step by step process to improve Livingston’s downtown has taken over five years.
This is the next obvious progression, McDonald said.
“I think our real focus on our downtown, our beauty of our downtown, I think does set us apart,” McDonald said. “We have been recognized by some of the state with awards with the TML and the Mayors Association through the UCDD, and various other organizations have recognized us. So I think what sets us apart is the beauty of our square and what we’ve done with it.”
There are currently 34 Accredited Tennessee Main Street Communities.
