The city of Livingston has two valves in the water system that need emergency repairs.
The valves are located by the Cumberland River at Butler’s Landing. Mayor Curtis Hayes said the valves control water intake from the river that travels 19 miles to Livingston.
“If these valves do not open, they can be opened manually at times, but if the manual switch does not work, as well.” Hayes said. “Then, the town could be in jeopardy of having little or no water coming out of the Cumberland River.”
Hayes said the project will be expensive with an estimated $115,000 price tag. Hayes said about $160,000 is budgeted for emergency repairs like this.
“We always budget money for our big projects and certainly our high ticket items,” Hayes said. “It is just a process of continuing maintenance.”
Livingston has two pumps at the Cumberland River, so water will continue to flow while repairs are made. Hayes said the repairs should be completed by the end of the year depending on labor and delivery times for parts.
“We hope to have them fixed within 90 days,” Hayes said. “Ordering the parts and labor. Thank goodness we have two pumps at the Cumberland River. While one could be down, the other is functioning correctly.”
