Livingston To Elect Mayor, Aldermen Tuesday

Voters headed to the polls in Livingston Tuesday, set to elect a new mayor and two aldermen.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 9 am to 7 pm at the Livingston-Overton County Chamber of Commerce. Administrator of Elections Craig Story said the election is important because the candidates will be in charge of services residents use every day.

“The decisions that affect a lot of people get done by these people we’re going to elect,” Story said. “The mayor and the aldermen, they’re responsible for, for taking care of the town of Livingston and making those decisions and they’re going to affect a whole lot of the citizens here. So it’s important for people to get their voices heard.”

Story said he reminds voters that a photo ID issued by the federal or state government is required to vote in Tennessee.

About 500 residents voted early. Story said normally, early voting represents about half of voter turnout.

“When you get less than a thousand votes or a thousand votes or somewhere in that neighborhood, odds are that you’re going to have a fairly close race,” Story said, “So if you’re wanting to have a say, this is your opportunity to really get to have a say.”

Candidates in the race include Lori Elder Burnett, Nathan Carr, Nathan Dale, and Robert “Bert” Jolley for mayor. Rex Dale, Arno Proctor, Jeramie Reeder, and Lance Ruble are running for alderman.
