Livingston Signs Proclamation Highly Recommending Masks

The Livingston Board of Alderman Monday signed a proclamation for the city strongly encouraging all residents to wear masks and socially distance in public.

The decree specifically recommends all churches, businesses and the school system to follow all COVID precautions. Mayor Curtis Hayes said Dr. Diane Sadler’s family played a part in creating the document.

“I have spoke with the family of Dr. Sadler. They have certainly approved this and is proud to see the city do it,” Hayes said. “This is a proclamation, and it is not a mandate on masks.”

Alderman Kelly Coleman made a motion at the beginning of the alderman meeting to add the proclamation to the agenda. Mayor Curtis Hayes read the decree towards the end of meeting, which voiced concerns of Overton’s rising numbers.  On first reading, The proclamation signing unanimously passed.

The decree includes the overall coronavirus death total with a dedication to 25 Overton residents that have died from COVID.

“The town of Livingston of Tennessee in order to honor the life of citizen Dr. Diane Sadler and other neighbors, friends and citizens that have lost their lives due to this potentially deadly disease to prevent the spread strongly encourages Overton County School System, local churches, organizations, businesses and all citizens to wear a mask and/or face covering.”

Hayes said the city hall lobby will continue to stay closed and all city meetings will continue to meet virtually indefinitely.

“Health centers including the Center for Disease Control, the Surgeon General of the United States, the state of Tennessee Department of Health, the Upper Cumberland Medical Association, as well as the town of Livingston’s local physicians and medical community has recommended the use of masks and/or face coverings as a means for preventing the spread of COVID-19,” Hayes said. ” (…)
