Livingston Receives Interest in Liquor Store Applications

The City of Livingston has received some interest from entrepreneurs looking to open liquor stores in the city.

Mayor Curtis Hayes says the city has handed out four applications to individuals interested opening stores of their own.

“Now we’re in the process of handing out applications and at this time we just don’t have anybody that’s turned them in at this point,” Hayes says. “I think the city council was real clear they believe in entrepreneurs and open enterprise.”

The ordinance passed during Livingston’s October City Council meeting does not restrict number of stores or where they are located.

The ordinance also allows package stores to locate in all commercial districts.

Voters passed a referendum to legalize retail package stores within city limits back in June. Fentress County voters will vote on a similar referendum to allow retail package sales in the county Tuesday.
