After missing all of 2023 due to injury, Livingston Academy junior quarterback Adrian Jenkins will make his return in Friday’s week one match up against Trousdale County.
Jenkins broke his collarbone on a bootleg play in a pre-season scrimmage two weeks before the start of the season. The injury did not require surgery, but he said it was devastating to have his season cut short before it had even started.
“The first week was kind of rough,” Jenkins said. “Until the bone fused back together and started easing off and the pain went away. But it was still challenging every day knowing I couldn’t practice.”
It was not until the end of their football season that Jenkins was able to begin getting back into football activities. But Jenkins said since there was no chance of him playing that season, he could take the process one day at a time and slowly get back to quarterback drills.
“When I got healed and everything and I was good to do normal activities, nothing excessive” Jenkins said. “Then I started throwing routes. Being able to hit the receivers and start to feel confident.”
Jenkins said the recovery process was made easier with the support of his teammates and that being sidelined was an opportunity for him to learn the game better.
“It gave me time to watch the game and realize what the defense does,” Jenkins said. “Look at the play from a different perspective and realize what would be there and what wouldn’t be there.”
With a full year to prepare for the 2024 season, Jenkins said the injury was a bump in the road that has instilled him with a newfound confidence heading into week one.
“I have a lot of confidence,” Jenkins said. “From the perspective of last year, the game feels a lot slower and I’m realizing everything that’s open in the defense with our routes.”
Jenkins will make his debut as Livingston Academy’s starting quarterback on the road at Trousdale County Friday at 7pm.
