Livingston Police Chief Greg Etheredge said Livingston Academy students and administration did exactly what they were supposed to do Thursday.
The high school entered a lockdown after students reported another student who possessed a BB gun in their vehicle as school started. Etheredge said he was proud of the response to the perceived threat.
“We practice and we plan for things and we train for things,” Etheredge said. “From my perspective the school officials they did everything they were supposed to do. The students did what they were supposed to do. Law enforcement cooperated with each other. We were able to bring it to a resolution very quickly.”
Etheredge said the firearm in question closely resembled a real pistol. Etheredge said the suspect student was not arrested with no malicious intent found. Etheredge said the school system will be in charge of disciplinary actions.
“The student was not out in the parking lot waving it around or anything like that,” Etheredge said. “The student was sitting in his car and showing it to another student and other students saw it and reported it. The students that reported did exactly what we tell people to do.”
Etheredge said the situation was resolved in some 20 minutes with eight city officers responding and assistance from the Overton County Sheriff’s Office.
