Livingston PD Opens Bids For New Body Camera Equipment

Livingston Police Department opened bids for new body camera equipment Friday.

Police Chief Ray Smith said the city received one bid with an estimate of $995 per camera. He said they plan to purchase about 20 to replace the old equipment.

“The ones that we used to have that company has closed out so we were looking for the next venture of these cameras,” Smith said. “We’ve used them for a while when we had the opportunity to demo them, and we’re real pleased with them and the service that we’ve had with them.”

Smith said an added plus is that agencies in surrounding areas also use this model. He said body cams are important for a number reasons, including for documenting and safety purposes.

“It’s a great tool we can use here in Livingston in the city and also for other things,” Smith said. “On documentation, it can help us keep track of things we might have missed whether they’re seen or heard, it can bring them back up for notation or writing reports for anything from a traffic accident to something you go on a call for service.”

Smith said the next steps will be to formally purchase the cameras and get it approved by the city, and then start to cycle out the old and implement the new models.
