Livingston Aldermen have approved an ordinance seeking eliminate abandoned vehicles from being left on public or private property.
Under the ordinance, a code violation would be enforced if an abandoned car stays on private or public property for at least 72 hours.
Once notified by the city, the owner must respond by removing the vehicle or scheduling a hearing within 10-days.
The proposed ordinance would only apply to junk motor vehicles without proper tags or registration.
Second reading approval of the ordinance will be required before it takes effect. The board will have the opportunity to make revisions to the ordinance before second reading takes place.
