Livingston Mural Application Deadline Extended

The deadline for the Livingston mural application has been extended to Friday.

Overton County Chamber of Commerce Director Shannon Cantrell said downtown businesses just did not have enough time to create mural proposals.

“This is a busy time of year,” Cantrell said. “Everybody is gearing up for the holidays. I wanted to make sure everyone that wanted to be a part of this. wanted to make sure that they had the opportunity to do it.”

Cantrell said six businesses have so far shown interest. Applications will be reviewed by the Downtown Revitalization and Main Street Committees November 20th. Winners will move on to the Board of Alderman for final approval in December.

“It was kind of a push to meet the first deadline anyway,” Cantrell said. “I was kind of trying to hope to get the approval in to the Board of Alderman by the first of November. It just did not work out.”

Mural proposals should include ideas and designs to highlight Overton County or Livingston’s history and culture. Cantrell said properties owners are responsible for 50 percent of the funding and maintenance after completion.

“We have had an artist assigned through the rural innovation center at Tennessee Tech,” Cantrell said. “So as soon as we choice the two murals, then we will let those business owners work with the artist from Tennessee Tech and start getting these designs completed.”
