Livingston Middle School will host a STEM Family Engagement Night on the afternoon of March 8th.
Overton Schools Math and Instructional Science Coach Deanna Savage said that the idea behind the event is to bring families in and provide them with fun, educational activities they can do together.
“We want to help those parents understand what their students are learning, why they are learning it, and how can they take things back home to help enforce those skills,” Savage said. “And bring about some more of that knowledge within the household.”
Savage said that families will also be given activities that they can take home, like making tesselations or creating 3-D shapes. She said that in that way, students can improve their knowledge and parents can better understand the students’ curriculum.
Savage said that the program came about as a partnership with Overton Schools faculty and staff.
“Overton County likes to collaborate among the schools so that we can engage the parents of those in our school building,” Savage said. “(…) We like to provide different opportunities to help parents better understand the curriculum.”
Savage said that in addition to the fun activities, they will also provide light snacks for those who attend. she said that the program is completely free of charge.
