Livingston Mayor And Aldermen To Consider Three Candidates For Police Chief

The candidate pool for the Livingston Police Chief position has been narrowed down to three.

Mayor Curtis Hayes said six applicants were screened by MTAS. Hayes said the municipal advisory service selected three candidates to move on and complete the assessment process.

“We’re looking forward to a direction,” Hayes said. “Livingston has been under the media eye for quite sometime now. Trying to get things leveled out and move forward.”

Hayes said Interim Chief Ray Smith is the only local candidate being considered at this point. Hayes said the Board of Aldermen will now review the assessment scores and vote on who to hire.

“They (MTAS) do not make any recommendations,” Hayes said. “They just send them through the assessment center, score them, the Board of Aldermen will review and we will take the next necessary steps.”

Hayes said he would like to see the position filled by Thanksgiving. Hayes said “there’s a good possibility” that discussion over the police chief position will continue during its meeting next week.

The position vacant since July when previous Police Chief Greg Etheredge submitted his resignation. It followed several Comptroller’s Office findings and concerns from the District Attorney’s Office about missing money and evidence mishandling.

Hayes said he has been pleased with MTAS and its role during the hiring process.

“MTAS does a great job helping Tennessee cities and they have played a crucial role in this candidate search,” Hayes said. “I’m happy with their services. They have helped us in all aspects.”
