Livingston Mayor & Aldermen Candidates Set

Candidates looking to succeed Livingston Mayor Curtis Hayes are set for the June 4 election.

Election Administrator Craig Story said the current candidates for mayor are Lori Elder Burnett, Nathan Carr, Nathan Dale, and Robert (Bert) Jolly. Story said candidates turned in petition packets with at least 25 signatures from eligible voters.

“We recommend, of course, that they get a whole lot more than that,” Story said. “But those folks have got those signatures, come in here and filed with us, and on the 28th at 1:00pm, the Election Commission will meet and we’ll approve the list of candidates for that election.”

Hayes announced earlier this month he would not run for re-election. In the race for Aldermen, candidates include incumbent Rex Dale as well as challengers Arno Proctor, Jeramie Reeder, and Lance Ruble.

Story said one mayoral candidate who turned in signatures has already withdrawn.

Story said election commissioners will have the chance to challenge the qualifications of candidates at the meeting, though that does not often happen. He said early voting for the June 4 election runs from May 15 through May 30.

“As far as when they take office, I actually think that that probably has changed with the city charter or a private act that they had done here not too long ago,” Story said.
