Livingston Hosting Kids Business Fair

A Livingston business wants to encourage business skills among kids through an October business fair.

Kids Closet Owner Jessica Alsip said the event will allow kids under the age of 18 to set up business booths for a day at Central Park. Alsip said she put the event together to give kids to showcase their skills.

“I believe the more we invest into our kids here in Overton County the more small businesses that will come in the future,” Alsip said. “So we will have more of a larger economy here in Livingston.”

Alsip said kids will have businesses like jewelry, baked goods, lemonade, and a bounce house booth. Alsip said kids will learn how to interact with customers, upkeep inventory, and handle money.

“They will know what they need to do for the process of getting ready for a business,” Alsip said. “and then they will know all the aspects of how to run a business.”

Alsip said it is not uncommon for a kid to have a business. Alsip said parents will use a business to teach kids to have a drive and grit about themselves.

“It starts with the parents pushing them saying you can do more than me,” Alsip said. “You can do better than me, I am just holding you up to the next level. It starts with the parents taking their kids and saying what do you want to do in life? So do you want to work for someone else your whole life or do you want to help other people?”

The Kids Business Fair has open registration available on the Livingston Kid’s Closet Facebook page. The event runs from 8am-1pm Saturday, October 12th.
