Livingston officials wrapping up the application process Wednesday in the search for a Building Inspector and Codes Officer.
Mayor Curtis Hayes said the city has received around 30 applications and resumes. He said he is seeking a candidate with a construction background and leadership skills.
“You’ve got the Building Inspector, you’ve got the Codes Enforcer, that’s all in the same position,” Hayes said. “You know, we want to make sure that when people are doing the construction, they’re doing the right thing for the protection of the consumer and for protection of the city as well.”
Hayes said that beyond the personality and experience requirements, applicants must be able to pass state building compliance testing to be considered. He said he hopes to have a decision made by July or August.
“It’s very, very important,” Hayes said. “We went through a property maintenance ordinance. We kind of renewed them two years ago and it has worked 98 percent of the time.”
“You’ve got to have someone that A, knows how to talk to the general public, and B, you’ve got to be able to enforce laws.”
