Livingston will not open the city pool this summer and will instead use the next several months to repair the pool.
Livingston Mayor Curtis Hayes said COVID-19 would keep the pool closed for several more weeks in order to limit social gathering.
“We normal close it around August when school opens anyway,” Hayes said. “This is a great time to us to be doing some good renovations.”
The Board of Aldermen approved some $9,400 in repairs to the roof Monday night. Hayes said the roof problems continue to get worse with every rain. City workers have found some rotten wood underneath the metal roof.
“Overtime, leaks have just continued to get worse,” Hayes said. “We don’t know how much damage there will be until we get the roof off the building to see if there is more damage.”
City workers will make additional renovations to the concession stand area, bathrooms, and locker rooms. Workers also found leaks in both the main pool and the smaller pool.
Hayes said the city will use about $25,000 of money already budgeted to operate the pool to make the repairs. The annual operating costs for the pool stand at about $40,000.
