Livingston Church of Christ will be hosting its fourth annual Drive-Thru Thanksgiving on Saturday.
Preacher Jon Ledbetter said he hopes those who truly need a meal will feel comfortable enough to just drive up and get a plate. He said the church family is happy to serve anyone in the community.
“We thought of this, and we thought you know this could work, and we had a lot of people show up, and each year we’ve had close to sometimes over 300 meals served,” Ledbetter said. “It’s been a great thing.”
Ledbetter said the church started doing drive-thru Thanksgiving in 2020. He said the drive-thru model was adopted to minimize contact during COVID, and they kept the model because they felt like they would service more people.
“We really want those who are in need of something like this to make it out,” Ledbetter said. “We would love to serve anybody, but we especially hope that those who are in need of I don’t know, people to show a little love to them, people that are struggling through life whatever it may be. We just want this to be a service that will be useful.”
Ledbetter said the event allows the church to connect to the community while offering residents in need a service.
“We’ve got a facility that could hold enough people to come in, but we think you know people might be more willing to come if they can just drive up and get a meal,” Ledbetter said. “It’s the most convenient way for people, and it allows us to kind of walk and talk to people while they’re waiting in line in their cars and be able to spend a little time with them getting to know them.”
Ledbetter said volunteers from the church purchase, cook and serve the meals. Ledbetter said it takes between 30 to 40 people to make the dinner possible.
“We kind of just hope for our members to take different parts of the meal home with them and cook them,” Ledbetter said. “Then we got a warmer here at the Windham Building where we keep all the food warm until it’s time to serve it. So yeah it’s all volunteer basis. Just our own people coming together, working together on this”
