Livingston Chamber Members Could Benefit From New State Insurance Program

The Livingston Overton County Chamber of Commerce wants to participate in a state program that brings employee insurance to small businesses.

Executive Director Shannon Cantrell said the opportunity comes from the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce.

“They have partnered with Aetna to create what was called Tennessee Chambers Health,” Cantrell said. “Because, our chamber is a member of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce, we can offer that to our chamber member businesses.”

Cantrell said the coverage is available for businesses with up to 100 employees. Cantrell said she looks to complete the paperwork for the service in the next few weeks.

“A lot of times it is hard for our small businesses to offer insurance to their employees at a reasonable cost,” Cantrell said. “A lot of small businesses don’t even offer insurance to their employees.”

Cantrell said she has already seen a large interest from local businesses wanting to participate. Cantrell said business owners can expect some more information coming out by the end of the month.

“There are quite a few different plans to choose from.” Cantrell said. “So, there should be one that works for your business. One thing that they tell us is on average they can save up to $144 over an insurance that they carry now, and of course, it provides opportunities for businesses to explore that a little bit.”
