Livingston Baptist 4th Of July Celebration Still In Planning Phase

Whether or not the Livingston’s 4th of July celebration will take place will depend on state guidances and local health officials.

Organizer Greg Arnold said he hopes to receive a definite answer by June 15.

“In the past we’ve always done it at First Baptist Church, but we’re also this year looking at Central Park in Downtown Livingston,” Arnold said. “Just because of the way some of the facilities are set up, we think that keeping the social distancing will be somewhat easier there.”

Surface temperature checks will be preformed on all participants, and families are encouraged to remain 6 feet apart from other families. Arnold said anyone who refuses temperature checks or have a temperature above 100.4 will not be admitted. He said masks and hand sanitizers will be available.

“While you may [be over] the social distancing, someone else may not be,” Arnold said. “Why put them in a difficult spot, you know? If everybody will keep their distance, we can still have a good time. We can still celebrate freedom, even without holding hands.”

A live concert could be in the celebration plans. Arnold said the country gospel band Mark209 from Nashville is willing to play for their event.

This event stands as a symbol for community, Arnold said.

“I don’t care about the Republican, Democrat, conservative, liberal, right, left-all of that,” Arnold said. “For one day, surely to goodness, we can throw that out the window and say ‘yes, we’re together in this.'”
