Livingston Awarded $450K Courthouse Grant

The City of Livingston was awarded a 450,000 dollar state grant to improve the courthouse grounds.

Mayor Curtis Hayes said the grant is the crown jewel of their revitalization efforts.

“We are just excited, this continues the momentum of our downtown,” Hayes said. “We believe in the philosophy ‘if you build it, they’ll come.’ I tell ya, other than this pandemic, we have had visitors across the state that have visited our historic downtown.”

Improvements include fixing drainage issues, new lamp posts, sitting areas, and sidewalk re-pavements. Hayes said the veterans memorial will move to the east side of the square.

The project should begin by November this year. Hayes said the grant expires in three years, but hopes to complete the entire project in less than two years.

“We feel like we’ve got one of the better downtowns around in the state and the Upper Cumberland,” Hayes said. “This is just great momentum to continue the progress that has been started several years ago.”

Livingston officials submitted the Transportation Alternative Program  grant nine months ago. Hayes said the city is responsible for 20% of the grant.
