Livingston Approves Resolution For Water System Rehab Grant

Livingston aldermen have agreed to provide matching funds for a water system rehabilitation grant program.

Mayor Curtis Hayes said the $630,000 would replace current four-inch lines with new six-inch water lines.

“It’s for areas that need to be upgraded and have good fire flow,” Hayes said. “It’s just replacing the bad pipes that causes some red water issues that we have.”

Hayes said the project would include leak detection and the installation of 30 new fire hydrants throughout the city.

“This is a CDBG (Community Development Block Grant),” Hayes said. “We’ve got the money and are ready to go, but we’ve got to get this resolution passed.”

The grant requires a 13-percent match from the city. Aldermen approved a resolution to apply for the grant during Monday’s meeting.
