Livingston approved the purchase of new zone meters designed to help city workers find leaks in their water systems.
Consultant Greg Davenport said the city awarded a $50,000 grant for the meters that goes to waste if they did not approve the purchase. Davenport said the city had already planned to do this work as part of a bigger project, but that funding has not been approved and this grant would get the zone meters taken care of sooner.
“So what we’re doing is we’re pulling the meter, the zone meter cost out of the SRF project so we can take advantage of this fifty grand,” Davenport said. “And Livingston’s match on that will be $17,150. The total bid was $67,150.”
Mayor Curtis Hayes said the new meters will make a major difference by allowing their water crew to break the city down into small areas they can use to find where their leaks are. Hayes said they have been working to get these meters for about two years.
“So all this is going to help as far as our water leakage concerns and should be a more efficient and thorough water department,” Hayes said.
Hayes said the city’s contribution needed for the grant will be paid from their American Rescue Plan Act funding. Grassroots Planning Consultant Amanda Mainord said they received a single bid for the project from United Systems & Software.
“Let me say this: we are approving this contingent upon a contract extension through, as long as ECD makes this approval,” Mainord said.
Hayes said everything needed to fulfill the contingency should happen next week.
