Livingston city employees who worked during the pandemic will receive a $700 one-time bonus.
The Board of Aldermen approved the $56,000 expenditure. Mayor Curtis Hayes said the checks will come out as quickly as possible.
“They’ve all had face to face contact with the general public in this pandemic, and so, it’s very deserving,” Hayes said. “We got a little money, and this is probably a once in a lifetime thing we were able to do.”
Hayes said the money comes from the first installment of some $1 million of American Rescue Plan funds. Hayes said the remainder of the funding will go to infrastructure improvements to be decided.
“We’ve got other projects that are on our radar, but to take $56,000 out of $1,083,000 is just not bad at all,” Hayes said. “I wish we could do more, but unfortunately, the project we want to do is over $2 million.”
Hayes said the check would amount to about $550 after taxes.
“We’ve had some COVID cases, and we’ve worked through it,” Hayes said. “Some folks have had to be off a week or so if not two. Unfortunately, we’ve got employees that lost some dear family members due to COVID. There’s no certain amount that will ever be able to bring them back, but this will be a good little time for a check at Christmas.”
