Livingston to host a public hearing Monday to accept applications for home rehab grant funding.
The town was awarded some $500,000 from the Tennessee Housing Development Authority. Community Developer Amanda Mainord said the program will allow developers to go inspect homes and make repairs that bring them up to codes.
“If the home is in extremely poor shape we can actually go in and demolish that home and build a new home,” Mainord said. “We actually this year, have been able to start on mobile homes. And that is something we haven’t been able to do for several years.”
Mainord said to be a level for demolition, they look at the condition of the structure of the house. She said the key is making the house safer to live in.
Mainord said to qualify one must be low income, have lived in the home for one year, and have proof of the deed among other requirements. She said income limits are based on the county and the number of folks in the household.
Fentress County also received $500,000, and the city of Jamestown received $300,000 for the same grant.
