Livingston Academy will have a senior parade to celebrate the class of 2020.
Principal Robert Melton said this year is special because this is the first ever senior parade for the school.
“Our normal end of year routine, we have several things that especially the last few days of the regular school year that celebrate our seniors and bring a lot of attention to them,” Melton said. “Since we’ve been unable to do that, we wanted to do something so that our community could and school could, and the families of course, be able to celebrate them and their accomplishments.”
The parade begins at 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Participants will begin at the high school, then drive around the bypass to Main Street and finally at the McDonald’s red light.
“We have asked them to be either in a truck or car,” Melton said. “They’re allowed to put their names on there and school colors. We’ve asked their parents if they can and wish to to ride with them.”
The high school has 212 graduating students this year. Melton said through teamwork, this event came together quickly.
“We had seen some suggestions from community members and parents and [we all asked] ‘what can we do?’ or ‘how can we celebrate our seniors?'” Melton said. “We heard from a couple of other high schools and as soon as we began planning it, we talked to Mayor Curtis Hayes and the Chief of Police here in town, Greg Etheridge, and the Director of Schools and everybody was all in.”
School officials ask for a maximum of four people, including two seniors, per vehicle. Observers are encouraged to social distance along the parade route.
