Livingston Academy Student Arrested For Making “Disturbing Remarks”

Livingston Police have arrested a juvenile for allegedly making “disturbing remarks” during class at Livingston Academy Monday.

According to a written release from Livingston Police Chief Greg Etheredge, School Resource Officer Jeremy Layckock has filed charges in Overton County Juvenile Court against the 16-year-old male student who made the remarks. The student will be held at the Putnam County Juvenile Detention Center pending a court hearing later this week.

“we take the safety of our schools and our children very seriously…in this case there were comments made that caused us to be concerned….we are well aware the public is concerned… we are dealing with the situation,” Livingston Police Chief Greg Etheredge said. “Our investigation is ongoing….and we have increased our police presence at Livingston Academy and our other schools. We believe at this time there is no known credible threat to our schools or children.”

Etheredge said his department began investigating after students notified school officials about hearing the student make the remarks in class.
