Livingston Academy Getting New Weight Room Equipment

Livingston Academy will be getting new weight room equipment after the school board approved the purchase Tuesday night.

Chair Mike Hayes said the some $34,000 purchase is made possible through remaining funds from the stadium project and a donation from the Quarterback Club.

“This contingency money was already approved in the program,” Hayes said. “So, we were just going to go ahead and purchase it, because we all agreed on it, but the Comptroller’s Office said that we would need to approve it as a board.”

Director of Schools Donnie Holman said all sport teams from football to soccer will have access to the new equipment. It will be placed in the new weight room constructed during the football stadium renovation project.

“Coach Flatt does a weight lifting class in fifth block, so they already do that,” Hayes said. “Last time I talked to Coach Flatt, he said the softball team is already asking about certain times. He gave them times that they can come in and use it, as well. It will be for everybody’s use.”

Hayes said the club will pay $8,000 while the school board will use about $26,000. Hayes said the current weight equipment will be traded in as a credit towards the purchase.

Hayes said a possible donation in the works could reduce that price as well as a UCEMC grant.
