The Livingston liquor referendum passed during the town’s municipal election Wednesday.
55 votes were all it took to allow liquor stores within Livingston city limits.
Supporters of the referendum said it would help generate tax revenue for the city and schools. However, it also faced heavy opposition, specifically from area religious organizations.
The referendum passed by a final count of 425 to 370.
Chris Speck, Kelly Coleman, and David Langford were also selected as Livingston’s next three aldermen during the election. Speck led the way with nearly a quarter of the votes.
Bill Linder and David Sadler II failed make the top three with 392 and 309 votes, respectively.
Voter turnout was at about 33 percent, with most ballots being absentee or early votes.
