Legislators To Consider Increase In McMinnville Hotel Tax

State legislators will consider an increase in the McMinnville occupancy tax to five percent this week.

The increase from its current two-and-a-half percent, the maximum allowed under Tennessee law. Senator Janice Bowling, who serves Warren County, introduced the bill in the senate while Representative Paul Sherrell introduced the house version.

The state projects an increase of more than $31,500 annually to the city.

The tax will be considered by the Senate State and Local Government Committee Tuesday and by the house Wednesday.

The money assists with tourism efforts.
