A legendary White County High School Football Head Coach will be laid to rest Friday.
Dee Harris passed at the age of 92-years-old. Current Head Coach Mark Frasier said Harris’s career is something that all White County coaches strive for. He says the legacy that remains is bigger than football.
“The way he treated people, and the way he treated his kids that is something we want to try to be as a coaching staff now,” Frasier said. “We hope to win a bunch of games. That’s important obviously, but I hope in the long term that they can look back and say we learned a little bit of life playing football and that is something Coach Harris taught us.”
Harris graduated from White County High school in 1948 and later became head coach for the school in 1958. Harris’s 19-year career resulted in 115 victories, and his 1959-1961 teams compiled a 28-1-2 record with the 1961 team finishing as State Runner-up.
The state House of Representatives passed a resolution honoring his contributions to high school athletics. Further than being a coach. Harris was a war veteran, a member of the church and a family man.
