Lamb Impressed With Whitwell Offense, QB

The Clay County Bulldogs face the Whitwell Tigers at home Friday night in round two of the TSSAA High School Football Playoffs.

Bulldog head coach Bruce Lamb said it was encouraging to see his team shake off four first half turnovers to beat Sale Creek 28-7. He said with the 8-3 Tigers coming to town, he has been more than impressed with their quarterback and Mr. Football semifinalist Bennett McDougal.

“He’s a big young man, good size,” Lamb said. “And he runs the ball really well and very strong when he runs the ball. I think that’s an area we really need to concentrate on. And they got a little speed on the outside.”

Lamb said the offensive line has found that next gear in the playoffs and are executing at a high level. He said the Bulldog defensive line will have to muddy up running lanes and re-establish the line of scrimmage in the Whitwell backfield.

The Bulldogs boast a Mr. Football semifinalist as well in quarterback and defensive back Nate Adams. Wright said while the team has relied on his arm to score points the majority of this season, he thinks the Bulldogs offense has found a balanced attack.

“This is exactly what we wanted to be doing at this time of the year,” Lamb said. “If something does fail, I want either passing game or the running game, we can fall back on the other. Having that, where we’re peaking at running the ball, I think that is a huge asset for us.”

Clay County versus Whitwell Friday night with kickoff at 7pm.
