Lady Cavs Holding Golf Fundraiser

The Cookeville Lady Cavs basketball team is holding the 32nd Mindy Odom Golf Tournament at the Golden Eagle Golf Club this weekend to raise funds for the program.

Head coach Jamie Gillies said this event is one of the two major fundraising efforts for the team. She said that the tournament is not only about a fun day of golf and giving back, but also an opportunity for the Lady Cavs to meet their fans and supporters.

“It’s just a great way for our team to be out in the community,” Gillies said. “Because they support us through these sponsorship’s, but also through coming to our games and things like that. So, we really like to get back out into the community.”

The players on the team will be working the tournament and Gillie said certain holes will have mini-games for golfers to compete in. She said this is an important event for the team as it is a way for the players to see and meet their supporters.

“I love fundraisers where the girls are involved,” Gillies said. “Because the money we raise, it ultimately goes all back to them and to the program. So, it’s neat for them to be out there and be all together and kind of see what it takes for us to raise money.”

Gillies said that while the amount of money varies from year to year, she is thankful to their sponsors and the teams that have signed up this year. She said the money raised at the event will be use throughout the year to keep the program in good shape.

This year the team got new uniforms, practice gear, shoes, warm-up gear and t-shirts. Gillies said the money is also used on road trips to ensure each trip the girls are fed.
