A water leak has forced Monterey schools to close Thursday.
According to a statement from the Putnam County School System, both Burks Elementary School and Monterey High School will be closed Thursday due to a lack of city water supply and no specific timeline on when water will be available.
With the notice occurring after some students were already on buses to school, students riding buses will be transported to their school and provided breakfast and cared for by the school staff. Bus drivers will return students to their drop off locations to return home between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
The statement said all Monterey schools faculty and staff should arrive at their respective school for instructions from their principal.
Any students that are transferred to Cookeville schools by bus from Monterey should follow their normal routine to attend school
