LA Marching Band Holding Recycling Fundraiser

The Livingston Academy Marching Band will be collecting recyclables Saturday to help with instrument repairs.

Livingston Academy Spirit of the Wildcats Marching Band President Jenny Story said broken instruments are a chronic issue for the band. Story said they are prepared to take anything from cans to large appliances, to try and cover the repair costs.

“They are only designated $1,000 a school year and that’s for anything, that’s any expense that they have, the rest of it is left up to these band kids and to the parents,” Story said. “It would be such an astronomical help if we could just get anybody to support them.”

Story said the estimates to fix the instruments is between $8,000 to $9,000. She said the kids will be set up in a drive-thru to collect recyclables from 7:00 AM on Main Street, between Hardee’s and the urgent care in Livingston.

“We’re gonna have the band students and some parents there to unload the vehicles,” Story said. “We’ll also have a table set up for baked goods and a table set up for some LA decals.”

Although, she said they are prepared to come to people’s homes to collect items, including appliances with coolants.

“Anything that has coolant in it or anything like that has to be specially handled,” Story said. “My husband has talked with Cooper Recycling and we know exactly how that’s got to be done, he’ll be taking the compressors off… So, we’ll have all that taken care of before we take it to the recycling.”

Cooper Recycling donated containers and land between Hardee’s and the urgent care. If this recycling fundraiser is a success, Story said she would like to make it an annual fundraiser.
