LA Has Successful Outcome For Voter Registration Drive

Livingston Academy expecting more than 90 percent of eligible students to be registered vote after Tuesday’s registration drive.

That’s according to Overton County Election Administrator Craig Story. Story said the voter registration drive happens every year as required by the state.

“You know they’ve got graduation they’re thinking of, they’ve got exams they’re thinking about, and going off to college, and this is one of those things that’s easy to slip up on you,” Story said. “And if we can get over there, and get them registered to vote, then when it gets time for elections, they can say I’ve already got it done and I can go vote.”

Story said Livingston Academy has been an excellent partner to work with on this process. He said that with the projected high number of registered voters, Livingston Academy could be in the running for the Anne Dallas Dudley Award. Monterey High School won the state recognition last year for registering 100 percent of eligible voters.

Story said once all of the registrations are processed, they will send out voter cards to individuals in the mail.

“Hopefully we’re going to get them interested in the process really early on,” Story said. “And if we can get them doing that maybe they’ll continue voting throughout their early adulthood and we want everyone to have a chance to have their say.”
